VINCE NEIL's Bar's Outfits Sicken Florida Nurses

May 4, 2007

Jose Lambiet of Florida's PalmBeachPost.com reports that area nurses are up in arms over a yet-to-open West Palm Beach, FL bar fronted by wild rock star Vince Neil. Neil and his Clematis group plan to outfit barmaids and waitresses in sexy nurse's outfits.

That has some real angels of mercy suggesting pickets and a boycott once the joint, Dr. Feelgood's Rock Bar, opens downtown in late summer — possibly with a free concert by the MÖTLEY CRÜE frontman.

"This concept is showing serious disrespect toward professional people," said 30-year nursing veteran and former Good Sam supervisor Deborah Copeland. "This is everything that nursing is against. Portraying us as servers in an establishment that doesn't benefit anyone's health is outrageous."

Adds Palm Beach Community College nursing Associate Professor Rebecca Pleasant: "Anytime someone smuts the image of the profession, it's demoralizing. There is a huge nursing shortage in the county, and being looked at as mindless sex objects won't help us recruit students."

Copeland and Pleasant are among several nurses who have asked WPB Mayor Lois Frankel and Downtown Development Authority boss Melissa Wohlust to run interference against the bar's owners through the permitting process.

"The ladies seem to be organizing," Wohlust said. "But there's nothing we can do. What Dr. Feelgood's is doing is legal and within code. We told the owners that some folks were offended by the concept, but that's their marketing decision."
